DESCRIPTION:Big Lunch celebrates a Unique Nation
              Apr 30/26  - media
          \n– Elizabeth Murray\nSunday afternoon\, June 7\, is t
outed to be another big\, Annual Big Lunch at St. David’s Tsawwassen\, w
hen the community is invited to celebrate Canada’s sovereignty and its p
lace as a Commonwealth realm.  \nOur world-recognized red maple leaf flag
is a prominent component of a Big Lunch block-party-style that welcomes p
arishioners\, friends and neighbours to share a meal together and rejoice
in the many blessings that make Canada unique.    \nThe skirl of pipe-m
ajor George Panagiotou’s bagpipes will signal the start of St. David’s
13th Big Lunch\, an event that adds its participation numbers to those of
a Commonwealth-wide festival held every first weekend of June. In 2025\,
the Big Lunch promotion of collective spirit and community togetherness\,
was supported by some 10-million like-minded citizenry whose values includ
e shared beliefs and ethics.  At a time when divisions in society are hei
ghtened\, it is heartening to see that the Big Lunch continues to break do
wn barriers and be inclusive and welcoming to all.\nRubbing shoulders with
others at the event’s traditional long tables\, is the step that ensure
s the day is inclusive for everyone. In the words attributed to Irish poet
William Yeats: “a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet”.\n
Barbequed hamburgers and hotdogs\, salads\, desserts\, and celebratory cak
e are the added pleasures of a special occasion. A program that follows th
 e meal includes\, Tributes\, Greetings\, and a Canadian-inspired sing-alon
g led by Allen Desnoyers. \nRed and white pennants\, balloons\, table cov
erings\, napkins\, flags and decorated cake – will leave no doubt that S
 t. David parishioners embrace positivity in promoting community oneness wi
 thin a celebration of Canada’s Unity.\nMore information at www.stdavidsd
