Parish Family Dinner

St David’s Parish family held a “just come and enjoy” dinner on Saturday, October 28th, in the parish hall.

The theme was a harvest celebration and invitation to “bring nothing, just come”, based on the Rector’s earlier sermon on “pointlessness” (meaning you don’t earn points for the things you do, simply be in Christ, and Christ in you ...).  So a pointless dinner was held and enjoyed by 62 parishioners.

The dinner was enabled by a crew of volunteers, creatively directed by Jeanmarie Rushton and sponsored by the Parish Support Team.   Using an analogy of “loaves and fishes”, there was much wonderful bread skilfully baked by Bob Peters and Christine Sanders; fishes were miraculously converted to chili by Norman and Katherine Wong, Jean Campbell, and Barbara Rudersdorfer.  Also, miraculously appearing in support, were a feta and pomegranate salad by Elaine Anderson and white rice for the multitudes prepared by Norman and Katherine.   Fresh spring water was amazingly converted into wine by Phil Lee.  The Maître d’, Jacob Bergen, was capably assisted by hosts Andy Anderson and Cal Campbell, in finding great seating for guests.

The most significant gift of the evening was the opportunity for conversation and getting to know one another a little bit better... early steps, perhaps, in building the parish community in understanding what it means to “be present” to one another and to exercise a ministry of hospitality.

The entertainment highlight of the evening was a skit performed by Alan des Noyers and dog (aka his son).

At the conclusion of the dinner, the remaining wonderful bread was raffled off and this, added to the spontaneous contributions, produced over $640, hopefully intended to stimulate generosity in eventually rejuvenating the parish kitchen.
Finally, many parishioners helped with the logistics, setting up and taking down, but special thanks has to go to Jacob, Don Christie, David Sanders and the knowledgeable, helpful consulting team of Kay and Isobel.
